How to join Aberdeen Artists' Society

Membership of the Society is open to artists or others interested in art, resident both within and out with the area. Amongst other benefits, membership allows you to submit your work to the Annual Exhibition at Aberdeen Art Gallery at a discounted rate if you are an Ordinary member and, free of charge if you are a Professional or Honorary member.

Ordinary Members are artists and others interested in art whose applications have been submitted to the Secretary and have been granted by the Council acting on behalf of the Society.

Applications may be made in writing at any time to the Secretary of the Society who will invite the applicant to submit a note of qualifications, if any, and interests in art.

The Secretary will submit applications to the first Council meeting following their receipt and inform applicants of the Council’s decision immediately thereafter. On payment of the appropriate subscription the Secretary will send successful applicants a copy of the Constitution and Rules of the Society.

Ordinary Members may apply to become Professional Members.

Professional Members are artists whose applications have been submitted to the Secretary and who have been elected by the Professional Members of the Society.

Applicants must have work on show at the current AAS Exhibition.

Applications should be sent to the Secretary of the Society during the first ten days of an AAS Exhibition. These should include the applicant’s name and address, signature and catalogue numbers of work on show.

The Secretary will send a list of competent applications to all Professional Members of the Society along with a notice calling a meeting to be held for the purpose of voting on such applications during the period of the AAS Exhibition.

As soon as is possible after the meeting the Secretary will notify applicants of the outcome of the election. On payment of the appropriate subscription the Secretary will send successful applicants a copy of the Constitution and Rules of the Society.

Honorary Membership
Honorary Members are artists and others who have made a significant contribution to art, having been recommended for membership by the Council of the Society.

Honorary Members pay no fees or subscriptions to the Society.

Ordinary, Professional and Honorary Members can benefit from a discount of 10% on the purchase of any works from all exhibitions.

Annual Fees
-Ordinary membership costs just £10 a year
-Professional membership (available by election only - see above) is £20
-Honorary membership (available by election only - see above) has no fees

Membership fees should be paid annually to the Secretary.
